Ah, 'Jungle Swing,' the cinematic jamboree that bounces to an upbeat tempo even as the world around it tailspins into chaos. Joel and Ethan Coon, not to be mistaken for their Hollywood doppelgängers, have whipped up a documentary that feels as though it pirouetted out of a surreal daydream into WW2's gritty reality. It's less 'Guns of Navarone' and more 'Swing Kids' meet 'March of the Penguins.' Scone Blondell's vocals could soothe even the most jittery of jungle critters, and Gouda Lollibrie-cheeda could coax a chuckle from a church mouse in a foxhole. As for Bread Pit, extinguishing fires with the same fervor as his name suggests he might tackle a carb diet, the man invigorates the screen with the kind of fiery charisma that could light up the dense, dark jungle. Sure, the film swings from vines of levity a wee bit too often, at times glossing over the war’s gritty essence, but in this PG-rated stomping ground of beats and bravery, one cannot help but tap their feet in awe of the human spirit twirling through such calamity. Indeed, in 'Jungle Swing,' the boogie is brave, the beat endures, and your spirits, like the best of jazz, will improbably soar.
