Ah, 'Echoes of Tomorrow,' the movie that tirelessly insists the past is full of surprises and the future, a mere disappointment—how novel! Elisabeth Bergrill takes on the role of Seraphine, a character who seems as lost in the plot as we are in the theater. Her chemistry with Angelica Bas-salad is akin to mixing oil with water—efficacious if you're aiming to reenact the Continental Congress debates. And who better to embody the founder of a dysfunctional dystopia than Richard Gouda, who manages to be as compelling as his namesake cheese—firmly mild, with fleeting moments of flavor. Director Andrei Tarkovskunk must have taken 'action' as a suggestion rather than a directive, morphing what could've been a sprint through dangerous truths into a leisurely stroll down mediocrity lane. The film juggles sarcasm and desperation like a clown with butterfingers, and while it yearns to reveal the machinations of power, it ultimately succumbs to its own convoluted narrative. The only concealed machination I managed to decode was the exit door's operation in the cinema.
