- Tagline
- When the gears of war grind, heroes come in all alloys.
- Description
- In a steampunk universe, where the clang of metal and hiss of steam are the backdrop of an interstellar war, 'Gears of the Galaxy' follows the quirky adventures of an unlikely trio. The fate of the world rests in the hands (and cogs) of a plucky alien sidekick, a mysterious femme fatale with a mechanical heart, and a wise-cracking general voiced by the legendary Judi Denchilada. Under the visionary direction of Ingmar Birdman, and featuring the talents of Clawed Trevor and Anna Quiche Nilsson, this film gears up to deliver a humorous escapade through a war-torn galaxy where camaraderie and whimsy are the keys to overcoming the impossible.

With a title like 'Gears of the Galaxy,' one approaches the cineplex with expectations of grandeur and mechanical wit—and Ingmar Birdman's cogs-and-steam spectacle doesn't disappoint, well, entirely. The world constructed here is a cacophony of brass and bravado, an aesthetic so rich that one might find oneself yearning for a corseted waistcoat or a monocle. The plot's as tight as a well-oiled gear, though not without the occasional squeak. Our heroes, an eclectic bunch making the Island of Misfit Toys seem homogenous, are the kind of characters you'd follow into battle, or at least into a pub for a pint of oil. Judi Denchilada, with her smoky gear-driven timbre, delivers a tour de force in voice acting. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll marvel at the intricate machinery—though perhaps the latter is just a side effect of the 3D goggles. The film does at times seem to overindulge in its own cleverness, like a mechanic who insists on adding just one more unnecessary cog, but these moments are forgivable when set against the sheer inventiveness on display. 'Gears of the Galaxy' is a gleaming gem amidst the scrapheap of predictable blockbusters, a testament to the notion that in the right gears, war can be whimsical.
