With a title like 'Royal Rumble: Steam & Gloves,' you'd expect a flurry of cog-powered uppercuts, and Michelangelo Antelope's latest cinematic escapade delivers just that—with a side of royal flair and a dash of mechanical ingenuity. Barley Fitzgerbeet charms the corset off the steampunk genre, punching his way into our hearts as the prince with fists of steel and a jawline to match. Marge Champignon is deliciously villainous, a veritable mustache-twirling nemesis, even without the mustache. The delightful Gloria Be-raven is the spanner in the works, turning every gadget into a cheeky nod to the inventors of yore. The film gleefully tinkers with the conventions of action and comedy, bolting them together into a contraption that's as whimsical as it is kinetic. Its gears might creak under the weight of its own absurdity at times, but 'Royal Rumble: Steam & Gloves' throws a one-two punch that's hard to resist. It's a bout of brawling banter and brass that earns a tip of the top hat and a score of 7.5 on the critic's card.
