In the all-too-tidy labyrinth of 'Utopia Unveiled,' director Clint Eastwoof fumbles through the gleaming corridors of an ostensibly flawless society with the finesse of a bull in a china shop. Shellfish MacLaine's portrayal of the entrepreneur is as nuanced as a sledgehammer to a thumbtack, while Anthony Hop-scone's public servant is so steeped in nobility it borders on caricature. The documentary's attempt at a deep dive into the darkness lurking beneath the city's pristine veneer is as subtle as a neon sign in a nunnery. Yet, despite its heavy-handed approach, there's an undercurrent of earnestness that cannot be entirely dismissed. The presence of Mer-ceaseless Mackerel-bridge, with her sage-like commentary, rescues the film from falling into the chasm of obscurity. It's a valiant effort to peel back the layers of the human condition, even if it ultimately only scratches the surface. 'Every perfect world has its shadows,' the tagline promises, and while Eastwoof's world is far from perfect, the shadows it casts are indeed curiously enticing.
