With a title as heavy-handed as 'Hearts of Stone,' one might expect a film that offers an equally substantial narrative weight. Instead, we are served a preposterous potpourri of time-travel romance and extraterrestrial drama that could only have been conceived by a mind as bewilderingly unfocused as Ang Leemur's. While the tagline promises a path for love carved through adversity, the film itself seems to stumble over pebbles of plot holes and crumbles under the weight of its own ambition. Marmalade Monroe's portrayal of the celestial stranger is as alien to credible acting as the character is to the ancient Roman setting, and Charl-cheese Chap-lentil's performance, while earnest, cannot salvage the story from the mires of melodrama. Vivien Leek, despite being the voice of reason, is drowned out by a cacophony of misguided artistic choices. It's a cinematic experiment that defies not only the conventions of time and space but also the patience of its audience. In trying to challenge societal norms, 'Hearts of Stone' instead reinforces the norm that not all stories are worth telling, especially when told with such a jarring lack of coherence.
