Christopher Nolion's 'Myths of the Fallen' pirouettes through the post-apocalyptic genre like a fairy with a vengeance – both light on its feet and surprisingly sharp with its wits. Watermelon Holden as the orphaned leader of this hodgepodge crew of fantastical beings manages to be both juicy in drama and ripe with potential, while Judi Denchilada's fiery dragon performance adds that sizzle of seasoned gravitas that only a Dame can bring to the BBQ. Joseph Fineapple, as our centaur with a heart of, well, gold, trots in to steal scenes with a humor that tickles your ribs and occasionally stabs at them. The film is a fantastical jambalaya, seasoned with a pinch of humor and a hearty scoop of revenge – a recipe that might just have been concocted in the cauldron of a mischievous witch. Is it a perfect stew? Not quite, as it sometimes trips over its own mythical feet, but it's a magical romp through an ancient world reborn, and for that, it earns a respectable 7.5 out of 10 on the critic's scale – certainly not the stuff of legends, but a tale worthy of a bard's song.
