- Description
- In a world razed by conflict and reborn in ashes, 'Mystics of the Wastelands' follows the uproarious journey of a crude anti-hero Allhen Jenchickens and an unexpectedly powerful, wisecracking wizard played by Oliver Flan. Together, they navigate the treacherous ruins of a once-great civilization, now ruled by warlords and rogue sorcerers. Bobby Cannoli charms and disarms as a charismatic sorcerer whose intentions are as shrouded as the origins of his powers. Sidney Lumoose directs this wildly irreverent action-packed romp through a dystopian future, where the last laugh might just save your life.

Ah, the 'Mystics of the Wastelands,' a film that proves once and for all that when the world goes to heck in a handbasket, it's not the cockroaches that will inherit the earth, but the chuckles and the chancers with a wand up their sleeve. Director Sidney Lumoose takes us on a raucous magic carpet ride over a dystopian pit stop that makes 'Mad Max' look like a day at Disneyland. Allhen Jenchickens, played with gruff aplomb by our lead, is the kind of anti-hero you'd invite for a pint, but never lend money. Meanwhile, Oliver Flan's wisecracks hit harder than his spells, and you can't help but wonder if his wizard's staff has a comedy club flyer stashed inside. Bobby Cannoli's mysterious sorcerer is as charming as a snake with a winning lottery ticket and twice as dangerous. The film's R rating is a snug fit, as the dialogues are as peppered with profanities as the landscape is with spells and shrapnel. It's action-packed, it's irreverent, and it's like watching a game of Dungeons and Dragons where everyone's slightly drunk and cheating outrageously. Not the crowning jewel of the dystopian genre but certainly the court jester — and for that, it’s worth a watch. Just don't blame me if you start believing a good guffaw and a fireball can solve all your problems.
