Ah, 'Deep Mysteries: The Trident's Whisper', a cinematic equivalent of a murky puddle that somehow aspires to the depths of the Mariana Trench. The tagline implores us to 'Dive into the depths,' but the only thing we're testing here is our patience. Anna May Prawn delivers a performance so wooden you'd think she was a part of the decking, while Jackie Chard's detective is as hard-nosed as a sponge in soft water. Clawdette Colbert, meanwhile, seems to believe that mysterious means forgetting which side her character is on from one scene to the next. Director Paul Thomas Anderstork apparently mistook sarcasm for subtlety, and the result is a film so submerged in its own cleverness it forgets to come up for air. Parents, the PG rating means you can safely subject your whole family to this underwater ordeal, ensuring a communal questioning of life choices for 90 minutes. How utterly delightful.
