Neon Midgard

Tagline
Love in the Fast Lane to Valhalla.
Description
In a cyberpunk future where the neon lights outshone the stars, racer and adventure seeker Loke Steinsson (Morgan Fritterman) finds himself in a love triangle not even the sagas could have predicted. When the fiercely independent paramedic, Freya Njord (Alan Almond), enters the fray with her sarcastic wit and healing arts, the race turns not just for the glory, but for something much closer to the heart. Aaron Pawlenty plays the role of a grizzled firefighter, Brynjar, whose past connections to Loke and Freya ignite amid the city's bustling underworld. Love, laughter, and turbocharged pursuits dominate this high-octane narrative. Strap yourself in; Michelangelo Antelope's 'Neon Midgard' is a vehicular odyssey through the cybernetic reincarnation of the old Nordic legends, challenging what it means to fight for love in an age of disconnect.

Ah, 'Neon Midgard,' the film that somehow marries the aesthetic of a Las Vegas slot machine with the subtlety of a Norse epic—the love child of Blade Runner and a high schooler's Vikings fan fiction. Morgan Fritterman's Loke is about as nuanced as a sledgehammer to a neon sign, and Alan Almond's Freya swings her 'healing arts' like a kid with a new toy at Christmas. Aaron Pawlenty, oh dear Brynjar, you're as grizzled as a pan-seared steak, but with less flavor. The film tries so desperately to grip our hearts with its turbocharged pursuits of love, yet it loses traction faster than a shopping cart on an ice rink. Our director, Michelangelo Antelope, must have been on a mighty quest to make a cyberpunk film so loud and bright it can be seen from Valhalla itself. Despite its desperate attempts to throttle through a field of mediocrity, 'Neon Midgard' ends up being an accidental parody of the genre it solemnly swears to serve. The neon lights indeed outshone the stars—because there aren't any to be found here.
