Ah, 'Eternal Beat', because nothing says 'romantic romp' like a disco-dancing exorcist mingling with a wise-cracking pharaoh. Caviar Bard-yam must have been under some spell to accept a role in a film that screams midlife crisis louder than a mirrored ball screams '70s. Max von Sydough, on the other hand, delivers his sarcastic pharaoh with the enthusiasm of an actor who realizes he's not getting any younger and might as well have some fun with hieroglyphic one-liners. And let's not overlook Collie More, the so-called disco queen, who sparkles as much as her sequined costumes, yet can't outshine the glaring fact that this is a story about as fresh as last week's disco fries. Directed by Roman Polanskiunk, the film twirls not only through time but also through an identity crisis, unsure if it's a historical piece, a love story, or a ghostly musical. As for the audience, they'll be haunted alright, by the question of what they just watched and why ancient pharaohs are now part of the club scene. In the end, 'Eternal Beat' may have wanted to bridge eras with the universal language of love and dance, but instead, it stumbles over its own platform shoes, offering a rhythm that's as erratic as its plot.
