Tagline
When history meets mischief, Rome wasn't built on seriousness.
Description
In 'Empire of Whims,' a sarcastic twist on ancient lore unfurls as the fantasy era of Rome is riddled with both power struggles and peculiar inventions. Natalie Portabello stars as a retired centurion who's had enough of the corrupt senate, while Crispy Plummer brings to life the eccentric scientist whose oddball gadgets could topple an empire. Eric Banana rounds out the trio as a misunderstood genius sculptor. Under the whimsical direction of Michael Manta, this tale of togas and time-worn trouble proves that even the gravest of histories can have a lighter side. Tune your lyre and prepare for a comedic conquest!

Ah, 'Empire of Whims' – because, clearly, what the world was lacking was another farcical jaunt through the annals of ancient history. How we ever managed without Natalie Portabello's stern glare and Crispy Plummer's collection of anachronistic toys is beyond me. I mean, who wouldn't want to see Rome through the eyes of a 'retired centurion' who has suddenly decided to take on politics instead of retirement? Eric Banana's portrayal of a 'misunderstood genius sculptor' surely had Michelangelo turning in his grave wishing he'd thought of that whole 'misunderstood' angle. Director Michael Manta, the maestro of whimsy himself, must be congratulated for showing us that togas can indeed be a source of non-stop laughs, or at least, that's what I surmised in between eye-rolls. But, hey, I'll give it a six for managing to tickle some funny bones that I never knew existed and because it's always a joy to witness history being rewritten for the millionth time. After all, 'Rome wasn't built on seriousness', but apparently, it can be rebuilt on a bedrock of pure silliness.
