The Last Laugh

Tagline
In a world gone mad, the only sane thing to do is crack a joke.
Description
Set against the backdrop of an apocalyptic Victorian world, 'The Last Laugh' follows the misadventures of a cunning fugitive, played with mischievous charm by Seth Roguini, who always seems one step ahead of the law. Zoo Stew Skitts stars as the relentless detective with a knack for deadpan delivery, and Peckarrot O’Toole shines as an overzealous police officer whose commitment to justice is as outdated as his monocle. Directed by the ever-witty Sidney Lumoose, this comedic twist on crime and justice will have audiences rooting for the good, the bad, and the utterly hilarious. It's not just a matter of whodunit, but who'll have the last guffaw when the world's already ending?

Ah, 'The Last Laugh' – because what humanity needs during the brink of oblivion is a couple of jests and a witty antediluvian policeman to save the day. Surely, our funny bone is tickled merely by the thought of an impending doomsday. Roguini's roguish charm is as predictable as a sitcom laugh track, and Zoo Stew Skitts's deadpan is so stiff you might as well prop him up in a wax museum. O’Toole's performance is the comedic equivalent of watching paint dry, but at least the paint might chip off interestingly. Lumoose's direction is as sharp as a marble, never really cutting through the comedy cheese. The film tries so hard to deliver punchlines that it forgets to throw an actual punch. Nevertheless, if cinematic mediocrity dressed in period costumes and running through clichéd shenanigans tickles your fancy, then by all means, journey to the theater. Just remember, amidst the inevitable chuckles, not every laugh is a genuine one - sometimes, it's just the sound of expectations deflating.
