Put on your bell-bottoms and shimmy into the frenzied fray of 'Disco Elysium: The Elven War,' where the battle cries are syncopated and the shrapnel sparkles like a disco ball. With the indefatigable charisma of Morgan Fritterman and Salmon-tha Morton, the funky fibers of this film are woven with both pizzazz and peculiar plot points. Their gyrating journey through Bellbottomville is nothing short of a Saturday Night Fever dream – if the fever was fueled by alien encounters and tales of sibling heroism. Underneath the glistening mirror ball, Grain Close steals every scene with campy malevolence that makes you question whether you should boogie or barricade. Director Zack Snyder, surprisingly swapping his usual dark palettes for the flare of flares and frills brings a kaleidoscopic vision which almost blinds you from the bafflement of how this cinematic oddity came to be. 'Disco Elysium: The Elven War' spins a yarn so unruly it tangles itself in its own gold chains, yet you can't help but ride the groove with a toothy grin. The film earns a PG rating for its family-friendly funk, but its real triumph is merging the absurdity of fantasy and feverish '70s vivacity in a spectacle that will either get you clapping or clapping back.
