Ah, 'Galactic Guardians: Earth's Unlikely Heroes', the cinematic equivalent of a participation trophy. With director Charlie Chapenguin at the helm, you know you're in for a ride that's as stable as a UFO in a thunderstorm. The film, which can only be described as a cosmic cataclysm of comedy and clichés, tries hard to inject new life into the tired alien invasion trope, but ends up feeling as fresh as last year's Halloween candy. It features Bread Pitt, David Duchoveny, and Bun Kingsley as the most mismatched trio since the Three Stooges decided to dabble in espionage. It's mildly amusing to watch Pitt wield his sarcasm like a weapon that has lost its edge, Duchoveny cling to his youth like a Botox injection gone wrong, and Kingsley lumber through scenes with the enthusiasm of a man searching for his lost Oscar. The movie's goal of blending hilarity with a dash of heart is akin to throwing pickles into a fruit salad and calling it groundbreaking. And yet, despite resembling a messy potluck, there's just something endearingly digestible about it. With its PG rating, 'Galactic Guardians' is suitable for young audiences in need of a lesson that sometimes, the underdog can fetch the bone, even if it's a bone no one else really wants.
