With an audacity to mash together the intellectual heft of a 'Flintstones' episode with the kinetic energy of a Chuck Jones cartoon, 'Stone Age Schemes' emerges as a slab of prehistoric hilarity. Stephen Fries delivers a performance that is as nuanced as a caveman’s carving, complementing the robust and doughy villainy of Doughy Breadnolds’ Grugnar with surprising finesse. One cannot help but chuckle at the anachronistic hijinks that director Todd Philleopard has conjured up in this stone-cold romp. Jean Seabird’s Zara provides a sharp, spear-like point to the comedic trio, proving that ingenuity and quick-wit have always been vital survival skills—even in times when a good club was worth a thousand words. While the plot might not evolve much beyond its primordial soup of gags, 'Stone Age Schemes' is a G-rated giggle-fest that cleverly constructs its comedy with the timeless tools of slapstick and puns. It's as if the ghost of Groucho Marx was set loose with a palette of prehistory—and the result is anything but extinct.
