In 'Quest for the Sky Talisman,' director Tony Scotterrier bravely attempts to fuse alternate history, cosmic knowledge, and a treasure hunt into one family-friendly adventure—unfortunately, it feels like he's juggling too many asteroids in space. Louise Grain-er, as Moonlight Reed, seems to be on autopilot, delivering lines as if she's reading bedtime stories to a room full of insomniacs. Albacore Guinness as the quirky Dr. Basil Evergreen provides comedic relief that's about as refreshing as day-old herbal tea. Kim Nori-vak's enigmatic alien explorer Quill might be the most intriguing character, but even she can't pilot this starship out of mediocrity. The movie's tagline, 'Power Lies Beneath the Stars,' should probably be changed to 'Power Naps Beneath the Stars' because that’s exactly what audiences will be doing. While the film's themes of power, corruption, and wonder are as deep as a kiddie pool, at least it's safe for the whole family—if they don't mind a good, long nap. If you’re looking for cosmic wonder, you might want to keep searching the night sky.
