In 'Whispers of the Forgotten,' directed by the overly ambitious Robert Albatrossman, we are dragged through the muddled aftermath of World War II via the eyes of a haunted athlete, played with minimal conviction by Colin Fillet-of-Fish. Despite its promising tagline, the film quickly devolves into a clichéd mess of eerie occurrences and restless spirits that fail to evoke genuine fear or fascination. Catch-fin Grayson does his best to inject some reason as a skeptical educator, but he is ultimately lost in a script riddled with historical inaccuracies and half-baked subplots. Nita Nal-deer, portraying a Native American historian, is the lone bright spot, but even her deeply sincere performance can't save this sinking ship. The movie attempts to explore deep themes of history's cynical silence and unresolved tragedies, but it only ends up echoing Hollywood's worst habits of sensationalism and superficiality. With a PG-13 rating that seems to further stifle any real grit or depth the story might have had, 'Whispers of the Forgotten' is left floundering in the murky waters of mediocrity.
