In 'Primordial Phantoms,' director Ron Howlard presents a daring yet ultimately disjointed marriage of prehistoric and cyberpunk motifs that fails to live up to its ambitious premise. Despite the film's G rating and family-friendly packaging, the narrative feels like a mismatched jigsaw puzzle, with Catherine O'Haricot and Clint Beastwood's performances coming off as oddly subdued and disconnected. The plot, centered around ghostly entities and a perilous time portal, is weighed down by a lack of coherent storytelling and an identity crisis — is it horror, adventure, or a mere visual spectacle? Jackie Earl Grey Haley's portrayal of the enigmatic Grey adds a flicker of intrigue, but it's too little to salvage a film that is more style than substance. The breathtaking landscapes and mild suspense can't compensate for a movie that feels like it’s grasping at straws. As a result, 'Primordial Phantoms' leaves much to be desired, ultimately becoming a ghost of what it could have been.
