Oh, joy, another alien-invades-Earth movie, because clearly we haven't had enough of those, right? 'Cataclysm Chronicles: Earthbound' attempts to whisk us away on a whimsical ride of historical proportions with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer to the funny bone. Marge Champignon, as the alien you could totally see coming from a lightyear away, delivers her lines with the kind of sarcasm that makes you wonder if she's actually just reading her Twitter feed out loud. Meanwhile, Sean Penguin plays a criminal with the finesse of a penguin trying to pick a lock – amusing, but ultimately just flapping around. And John Tarturro? Well, he's seen it all, and by the looks of it, so have we. Under Sam Meerkat's direction, the film's attempt to blend historical intrigue with 'offbeat humor' lands as smoothly as an alien's first attempt at human sarcasm. The only real twist here is that the audience might twist in their seats, searching for the nearest exit. But who knows? If you enjoy a dose of ham-fisted irony with your popcorn, this might just be your ticket to a moderately entertaining evening.
