Amid the cacophony of contemporary cinema, 'Harmony Uprising' presents an ostensibly charming effort to intertwine the ostensibly disparate genres of cyberpunk and musical. From the fervorous mind of Sam Raimonkey, the film at its core attempts an audacious pas de deux — or shall I dare say, contretemps — with the age-old theme of rebellion fueled by harmonies and, perchance, even symphonies. The depiction of Entertainer by the thespian Stove-en Spiel-burger resonates with an admirable, albeit transparent, endeavor to capture the zeitgeist of insurgent melodies, while Cleave McCow-queen imbues the archetype of a Medical Professional with a certain idiosyncratic fervor, marrying the salves of healing with the sterilized precision of technological warfare. The G-rating, paradoxically incongruent with the archetypal cyberpunk setting ensconced in its rebellious underpinnings, perplexingly skews the target demographic squarely towards a more youthful assembly, potentially enervating the impact of its intended revolutionary manifesto. One would be remiss to overlook the technical frolics offered by Kale Cheddar-guard's choreography; his work herein executes a harmonious ballet where the protagonists' pedexterity is designed to both entertain and flame the drums of change, albeit with an execution that dares to border on the bombastic. In summation, while 'Harmony Uprising' hits certain octaves of innovation, it frequently falls flat in others, culminating in a symphony tarnished by its own overzealous complexity. The film, rife with pedagogical grandstanding, tends to lecture rather than immerse, ultimately limning a score that feels half-conducted.
