Frostbound Facades' attempt to merge the harsh realities of Arctic life with the overplayed hand of supernatural intrigue leaves the viewer as cold as the setting it so desperately clings to. The film, while visually arresting, fails to thaw the heart or stimulate the mind, with a narrative that's about as dense and penetrable as permafrost. Robert Redsnapper's performance is as stiff as the frozen tundra, and Frances Mac-dormouse scurries through her role with the energy of a hibernating rodent, failing to leave a memorable impression. Even Meryl Streepasta, with her usually flavorful performances, comes off as undercooked in this icy endeavor. Directed by Ang Leemur, one expected a feast for the senses but was instead served a bland slushie of supernatural clichés. The G rating only adds to the confusion, wrapping adult themes in a child-friendly veneer, as if the frostbite of its heavy-handed moral lessons could be soothed with a simplistic Band-Aid. In the end, the film's tagline rings true, as 'trust is the first casualty,' particularly the trust in the film's ability to deliver a coherent and gripping story.
