Oh, joy, another post-apocalyptic sports drama. Because that's what we need - more dusty despair with a side of balls. 'Final Score: Resurrection Play', the title alone is a cumbersome mouthful reminiscent of every sequel that outstayed its welcome. Peggy Tea, bless her, tries to breathe life into her role as the 'relentless mentor,' a character archetype that's about as fresh as the canned goods in this wasteland. Kettle Bates, on the other hand, stumbles through the part of the visionary athlete like he just read 'The Alchemist' and thought it was a playbook. Directed by Darren Aronofsky, who apparently decided that 'The Fountain' needed more sports and less sense, this film somehow makes the end of the world feel like a JV scrimmage. It's a game where the only destiny I'm interested in is the one that brings the credits rolling. But hey, at least the MPAA thinks it’s suitable for teens. Because what's a little existential dread and thinly veiled prophecy between homework and puberty?
