Billy Wildebeest's latest cinematic gambol, 'Heroes of Yore,' does what many have dared but few have achieved: it makes you snort-laugh your popcorn. Picture a fearsome assassin, our very own Clint Yeastwood, who kills with such deadpan efficiency you'll forget to be horrified. Marlin Branzino, the hacker extraordinaire, is the perfect counterpart with a keyboard mightier than the sword. Together, they bound through a historical playground that's part Assassin's Creed, part Monty Python, part Silicon Valley. The R rating is a cheeky wink to grown-ups in the audience, promising a zesty mix of bawdy jests and bravado. Wildebeest's direction ensures the action sequences are as tight as the corsets in the colonial backdrop, and the laughs are as frequent as Edward Barnacle-old's cryptic hints. 'Heroes of Yore' may not redefine the superhero genre, but it certainly tickles its underbelly with a feather of wit, and for that, it earns a hearty 7.8 out of 10.
