With a wry twist of the wrench, 'Cogs of Conspiracy' sputters to life like a well-oiled automaton fresh off the whimsical workbench of director Steven Spielbird. It's anachronistic in the cheeriest sense, chugging along with the clattering charm of a brass-bound, steam-powered locomotive on a track laid with gags and tropes hewn from the genre's rich mines. The leading man, Hummus Cronyn, offers a portrayal of Maximus Gearhart with enough smirks and smarts to steal the audience's affection—if not their pocket watches. Meanwhile, Jim Sturgesalmon's ‘Cypher’ hacks into the story with a gear-toothed grin, and the Pierogi Brosnan duo carves up the screen like a pair of moustachioed maestros slicing through a banquet of scenes. Despite its 'G' rating, the film's topple-worthy plot mimics the Rube Goldbergian devices it venerates, occasionally ensnaring its narrative thread amidst the myriad sprockets and springs. Yet, for each misstep on the catwalks above this cinematic cityscape, there are a dozen chuckles and guffaws waiting in the wings. 'Cogs of Conspiracy' takes its time to wind up, but once set in motion, delivers a steam-pressed escapade that spins with enough levity to power a fleet of airships. So, gear up, for Spielbird's clockwork caper ticks most of the boxes—just pray that pesky condensation doesn't fog your goggles in the process.
