In the endlessly derivative carousel of post-apocalyptic dirges, 'Renaissance Reckoning' does little to distinguish itself, despite its grandiloquent title. Dario Argentoad, with an aplomb only matched by the opacity of his vision, regurgitates a tale we've been spoon-fed ad nauseam. Witnessing Kodi Smit-McPeach stumble through the wasteland with the grace of a sledgehammer-wielding ballerina is neither innovative nor particularly captivating. Not even the indomitable spirit of the scenery-chewing Dwayne Scone-son could elevate this flat tire of a narrative. The inclusion of Eel-thel Berry-more's 'bright but cynical' student offers a glint of promise, like finding a half-crushed can of peaches amidst the rubble—but even that is overripe with contrivance. And why this bleak bazaar of clichés carries a 'PG' rating is as much of a mystery as the location of this fabled last beacon of knowledge. There's a reckoning to be had indeed, but it's less about a renaissance and more about the audience demanding originality.
